Savannah River Site (Aiken, SC) - SRS is a facility originally constructed to produce the basic materials for nuclear weapons. After the end of the Cold War, the site is primarily focused on environmental stewardship, environmental cleanup, waste management and disposition of nuclear materials. SRS processes and stores nuclear materials in support of national defense and U.S. nuclear non-proliferation efforts, as well as develops and deploys technologies to improve the environment and treat nuclear and hazardous wastes left from the Cold War.
